This year, the travelcommittee outside Europe has also ensured a great trip! We chose to go visit Havana, Cuba; land of the sigars, oldtimers, and the sensual salsa. But also the land of limited human rights, socialism and communism, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro. These are the subjects we are going to learn about.

In Cuba it looks like someone pressed “pause” some decades ago; for example; at some point Fidel Castro forbid anyone to buy new cars or houses, so the streetscape in Cuba is dominated by beautiful old villa’s and oldtimers. Another law is that Cuban restaurants are forbidden to employ other people than their own family, or serve other dishes than allowed by law. And there are more of these odd rules that make Cuba such as fascinating.

Next to all of that, Cuba also has a beautiful nature, like Varadero; white palm-beaches, and de Vinales-valley; the tabaccoplantages are on the Unesco World Heritage list.

Al these unique aspects of Cuba combine in our trip, which takes place from the 6th till the 17th of April 2012. We will be staying in an ***hotel with a roof-top pool. This hotel is located directly at the Malecon; the famous boulevard in Havana, where the Carnaval is being celebrated during our stay. A huge spectacle you definitely wouldn’t want to miss!

And of course we will also be doing studyrelated things, like visiting the bufetes collectivos; the collective law firms which are approved by the government. We will also visit the Dutch Ambassy in Cuba, the Tribunal Supremo Popular (Supreme Court of Cuba), the Ministry of Justice and Havana University, where we hope to be able to attend a class.

This whole trip wil cost you only €999,- including: flight, hotel, transfers and other transport, touristcard, breakfast and the trips in Cuba.
